Full Time Veterinary Assistant

We're looking for an experienced, full-time veterinary assistant. We are a fast-paced two doctor practice in downtown Detroit. Three to five years experience as a veterinary assistant is strongly preferred. Must have the ability to work with clients, patients and coworkers in a professional, friendly, and hospitable manner. Client communication and education are an integral part of the job, so a background knowledge of the latest veterinary products and procedures is essential. Duties include assisting the doctor during examinations, safely restraining animals for exams and procedures, communicating with clients and the doctor regarding pet health care, obtaining medical history and keeping accurate records, assisting in surgery and with xrays, filling prescriptions, obtaining laboratory samples, keeping work areas stocked and organized, hospital cleaning including mopping, dusting, laundry, and cleaning cages. Physical activity includes lots of time on your feet and ability to lift and restrain large dogs. Will also be working with veterinary computer software, email, fax machine. Schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday (off on Wednesdays and Sundays). Employer provided health insurance, employee discount, and paid time off are available after the first 90 days of employment, if applicable.
